Build-A-Block

A coalition of 16 public, parochial, and independent schools all working together towards the common goal of rebuilding Baltimore’s neighborhood. The goal in 2010-2011 is to sponsor and build six homes and raise $300,000 by the end of this school year. Additionally, an abandoned garage has been purchased to convert into a green space as a community garden or park for the neighborhood to enjoy.

Coalition schools include Mergenthaler Vocational Technical School, Park School, Dulaney High School, Hereford High School, Carver Vocational Technical School, Friends School, Mount St. Joseph High School, Edmondson-Westside High School, Bryn Mawr School, Jemicy, Calvert Hall, REACH!, Independence School Local 1, Roland Park Country School, Baltimore City College, and McDonogh.

Sponsors to date include Wegmans and Dominos.

Youth Service Saturday

A program for youth to learn about Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake’s exciting work and participate in fun activities that support our mission!

This exciting program is designed for youth ages 5-15 and educates participants about helping families in need to build simple, decent, and affordable homes.

COME JOIN US!
Youth  Service Saturdays are held every 3rd Saturday of the month.

The event takes place at the Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake office and is free with a suggested donation of a new paintbrush, paint roller, painter’s tape, permanent marker, tape measure, Home Depot or Lowe’s gift card.

Youth United

A student-led coalition supporting Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake’s mission that combines the strengths, talents, and the resources of our school communities by jointly participating in construction projects, advocating for housing issues, and creatively raising money to reach the goal of decent and affordable housing for everyone in the Anne Arundel County/Baltimore region.

Youth Policy

Construction volunteers ages 16 and 17 must be accompanied by a person who is 21 years of age or older and must abide by all aspects of Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake’s Youth Policy. Chaperones may oversee up to four students at a time. Maryland Volunteers under the age of 16 are not permitted on active construction sites.
