Mission, Vision, and Values

Our Mission

Putting faith into action, Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake brings partners together to build decent, affordable homes that change lives, empower families and strengthen communities.

In every community there is work to be done. In every nation there are wounds to heal. In every heart there is the power to do it.

—Marianne Williamson

Our Vision

A world in which everyone has a decent place to live.

Our Values

1. Choosing Personal Responsibility – Sharing Time, Talent & Treasure

2. Putting Faith into Action – Conviction Translated into Deeds

3. Building Homes, Communities, Relationships and Lives

4. Respecting the Dignity of Individuals – Everyone has a Voice

5. Creating a Legacy Sustained through Commitment & Dedication

Houses are sold at no profit through no-interest mortgages to qualified homebuyers who earn 25% to 50% of the area median income.

There are three main criteria for involvement in the homeownership program: need, income eligibility, and willingness to partner.

We strive both to change the systems that lead to poverty housing and build communities where everyone can afford to live. The sad fact is that the need for decent, affordable housing is far greater than any single organization can meet. That is why Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake works with partners throughout the community including businesses, non-profits, government entities, and the faith community.

We enthusiastically share Habitat for Humanity International’s ultimate goal of putting shelter on the hearts and minds of people in such a powerful way that poverty housing and homelessness become socially, politically, and religiously unacceptable in our region, nation, and world.
