The culmination of the three month Ravens Raffle happened at Habitat of the Chesapeake’s 30th Anniversary event held on September 30th. In third place, for the big screen TV, the winner was Rebecca Richards. In second place, for the Michael Oher signed football, the winner was Greg Metzger. Finally, the grand prize of two tickets to a luxury suite plus pre-game on-field access went to Susan Carlin! We thank everyone who purchased a ticket for the raffle; we were able to raise $6,545!
Ticket holders eagerly waited to hear the results at the event in Patterson Park. “Wowee!” Susan Carlin said in disbelief at her grand prize win. “I plan on having my Dad drive down from Rochester for the game as my guest – It is on his 74th Birthday AND he has been a Raiders fan all his life!” She explained, when asked who her lucky guest would be.
Second place winner, Greg Metzger was excited to receive the football autographed by Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher #74. “I was thrilled to learn I had won the Michael Oher autographed football!” Mr. Metzger was touched by the movie based on Michael Oher’s life, The Blind Side. “His effort to overcome homelessness and a very shattered youth through the help of a loving family is one of the great stories of our time. I entered the drawing to help Habitat never expecting I would win-what a pleasant surprise.”
When 3rd place winner Rebecca Richards heard the exciting news about her new big screen TV she was reminded of a very personal and moving story. “Last year while living in Federal Hill, I met and helped a Vietnam Veteran who had been down on this luck, in rehab for drugs and drinking… After getting him help at the VA Hospital and my challenge to him to stay clean, I helped him apply for a senior apartment in Federal Hill and I furnished the apartment… I keep in touch with Robert – and in September I took him out to dinner for his 68th birthday and bought him a large flat screen TV. I told him that he now has something I do not even own and I wanted him to enjoy the Orioles and Raven Games… So just like Robert – Thank you for my Large Screen TV and I will enjoy watching the Orioles win the World Series and Ravens at the Super Bowl!” Ms. Richards’ moving story reminds us that sometimes we’re guided by something far better than luck!
