Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake homeowners went to Washington, D.C. on Monday, April 5 to take part in the traditional White House Easter Egg Roll. Twelve families from the Baltimore and Anne Arundel County area joined 30,000 people from all 50 states, and D.C. for a visit to the White House. The families spent the afternoon enjoying many different activities on the South lawn.

The egg roll itself involves rolling a hard-boiled colored egg on the lawn with a large serving spoon. There are many more activities for the children including musical groups, an egg hunt, sports, a story time area and crafts. For participating, each child is given a commemorative wooden Easter egg signed by the President and First Lady.

Originally started as an activity by children in Washington, D.C. on Capital Hill on their day off from school, the egg rolling and activities became too big an event for that area. The Easter Egg Roll began at the White House in 1878 when President Hayes offered the White House lawn and has continued nearly every year on the Monday after Easter.
