This year, The American Muslim Interactive Network (AMIN), has become one of those groups who helps us out in a pinch! They have sent volunteers (often more than we ask for) to all their assigned dates with the Interfaith Volunteer Corps.  But in addition to that, they signed up to go to Shady Side, participated in the Interfaith dedications, helped with the logistics of the Interfaith Volunteer Corps, came to the Fayette Street Rally, worked in every way to support the Interfaith Comedy Show, and basically said, “tell us where you need us- we’ll be there!”

Groups like this, who are called to serve and do all they can to support our mission make us smile!  They are fun to have on site, very open to sharing how their faith contributes to their call to serve, and are happy to enlighten other volunteers about the Muslim faith.  But mostly, they want to build homes! And we are glad to have them as one of our partner groups.

The American Muslim Interactive Network (AMIN) is an apolitical, culturally diverse, grassroots organization committed to creating and fostering a social, cultural, and professional network of Muslims and non-Muslims interested in Islam and interfaith relations in the greater DC metropolitan area.  One aspect of AMIN’s mission is to provide members with opportunities to participate in charitable, volunteer, and education initiatives that allow American Muslims to fulfill their civic duty to give back to the American community at large.  Another aspect of AMIN’s mission is to create avenues for members to participate in interfaith and multicultural outreach, thus encouraging people to think of alternative ways to discuss faith and religion based on respect, tolerance and mutual collaboration.  It is for these reasons and more that AMIN is a proud and natural partner in Habitat for Humanity’s Interfaith Volunteer Corps.  This partnership allows AMIN members to fulfill their civic duty to give back to the community, while also participating in key interfaith dialogue with other religious groups—building bonds of friendship while also building homes.  The Habitat for Humanity builds are extremely popular events among AMIN members, who relish the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with our faith partners, learning about other faith traditions, and showcasing the dynamic nature of the American Muslim community.
